Extended Head Band

🎗️ Required Material:

A band with a width of 8 cm or 10 cm.

Effect & Benefits:

The extended head band helps release tension between the ears and in the poll area.
It is particularly suitable for horses with closely set ears, a high head carriage, or sensitivities in the poll.

📝 Application:

  • Stand on the left side of the horse.
  • Hold one end at the left cheek.
  • Guide the band over the left jaw joint, in front of the ear, across the poll, and down behind the right ear.
  • Lead it back under the throat from right to left.
  • Pass the band a second time between the ears.
  • Bring the free end back under the throat and tie both ends loosely.

👀 Observations:

The head band can visibly reduce tension between the ears and in the neck area.
Changes in ear position and relaxation are often noticeable, especially when comparing before-and-after photos.
Horses that feel uncomfortable with pressure in the poll can learn to relax more easily with this band.

📌 Important Notes:

  • The band must not slip over the eyes and should not sit too tightly around the neck.
  • If you are still inexperienced, first try the simple head band.

⚠️ Safe Removal:

  • Ask your horse to lower its head.
  • Gently loosen the knot.
  • Place one end through the halter so it doesn’t flap around.
  • Hold the other end firmly and slowly pull the band over the head.

With this technique, the horse can be gently accustomed to touch around the poll and ears, which can lead to greater relaxation and improved acceptance of the halter or bridle in the long term.
